"Do you even know where you're going?" - Shedd, OR

Last week, my friends and I jumped into my friends car and took an adventure off into the back roads of Oregon. After taking a break in a random field and jamming out on a guitar and a ukulele, we decided that it was time to head home.

Then the fun part began. Rather than just reversing the same route that we took to get there, my friend started going in a completely new direction. We adventured down the gravel roads, kicking up dirt and dust (funnily enough, my friend had just washed his car...). After a bit, we asked if he knew where he was. "Nope, not really." But we kept on driving. Eventually, we hit a road which we recognized and we got back home and that was that.

So is that it? Ha ha! NO.

Along the way we discovered a lot of really cool new places, places that I think I'm gonna try to visit again. Along the way, we jammed out to Switchfoot, singing at the top of lungs. Along the way, we made memories.

I think many times it's tempting to stay on the old beaten path. To do things as you've always done them. After all, it's familiar and comfortable. We know what to expect. By staying on the normal path we keep the dust and the dirt out of our lives, and can live life without too many issues. We like our comfort, and changing our routine is scary.

However, the life that God has called us to is quite different from that. Sure, there will be times of 'normalcy', but there will also be times when God calls you to do something crazy. Different.

In a classic story from Acts 8, Philip runs up to a Ethiopian eunuch on a chariot. Unbeknownst to Philip, the Ethiopian was reading a passage out of Isaiah which was referring to Christ and His death. Using that, Philip was able to share the Gospel, and the Ethiopian was saved.

Now we don't get a lot of information on what Philip was doing, and how he felt, but my guess? It wasn't in his comfort zone to run up to a chariot to talk to a high ranking foreign official. But when God calls, you answer, and by Philip answering, amazing things happened.

Life is an adventure, and often God will call you to do things that you may not understand, or see what the outcome is (look at Abraham, or Abram if you're looking at his earlier life). Yet, when we heed God's call, really cool stuff happens. It can feel a bit scary and a bit crazy, but I guarantee that when you look back afterwards, you'll be amazed at the God we serve.

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Proverbs 16:9
